Wildlife Photography South Africa
Helgard attributes his love for photography to two important women in his life. His mother always took photos of the family and he remembers the anticipation in waiting for the slides to come back. It was always a special occasion when the photos arrived and enjoyed at by all the family members. Later in his life his wife, Antoinette, a journalist, whom he met while they both studied at University, handed him the camera to take photographs during assignments. This was a fantastic learning experience as he had exposure from taking formal photographs at dinner parties to action shots at sport events. It was during this period that he bought his first camera, and as with most amateurs, started taking pictures of the family. That could not quench his thirst and it developed into taking wedding photographs, sport events and photographs for school yearbooks.
He loves the African bush and his love for wildlife was instilled in him by his father and his photography took a natural development into taking photos of Africa birds, wildlife and landscapes. Helgard and Antoinette grab every available opportunity to spent time in the Kruger National Game Park photographing Wildlife at it's best.
His main aim is for other people to share in the beauty of Gods creation of African Wildlife. Despite the fact that he spends hours studying the theory of photography, including the wealth of information offered by the many great wildlife photographers, he still believes that the photographers eye, in capturing the subject using light and composition, will remain the main ingredient of a successful photograph.
All the images displayed are for sale and should one of the images speaks to your soul you are encouraged to place an order.
Please consider yourself invited to share in the splendour of African wildlife, as seen through his lens.
